THE FUTURE OF E.BOOKS

WE REPRODUCE PART OF A COMMENT PUBLISHED BY THE BLOG “EL FINANCIERO DE MÉXICO”  ABOUT THE FUTURE OF E.BOOKS.

THE FUTURE OF E.BOOKS

Now it is possible to purchase a book without leaving home. How? Just have an electronic reading device, access the website of a distributor of eBooks, choose the desired title , and finally , download it seconds. Even bookstores such as the Economic Culture Fund , the UNAM 's own cyber books that sell these , of course, are a reflection of what they call the " virtualization of reality " .

Maybe that's why , in 2000 , Stephen King was one of the first writers to digitally release his novel Mounted on A Bullet that  in less than 48 hours sold 400,000 copies . The digitization is such that the Encyclopedia Britannica has already stopped printing on paper. This transformation in book formats has led us to talk to some publishers and authors.

The first Mexican company  that decided to focus exclusively on publishing eBooks is Editorial Ink. Its director, Diego Echeverria , talks about the origin of this seal - more than three years ago: We performed a market analysis to see what the future of the publishing industry. That was how we found signs that indicated that although paper books will never cease to exist , a large percentage of the market is going to favor digital publications . In the catalog of Ink Publishing , said Echeverria , there is, essays, poetry , history, architecture , novels, reports and art :

- We decided that our themes areas were to be spacious, non- focusing on one editorial, and , because of the great care we take in the quality of publications , we have been fortunate to have great authors. Among the many advantages of eBooks is the fact that they are not only very practical and can bring multiple titles on a device with no problem, but they are also much cheaper than printed books .

What does the future hold for paper books ?

- Still a long one . I think I shall die and they will continue to print them . There is an example that explains this phenomenon perfectly: A long time ago copyists filled books by hand and when printing press appeared, they did not  disappeared immediately . On the contrary,  they coexisted . And , similarly , e-books will coexist for a long time with books printed on paper . However, we must admit that there will come a time when these will finally be gone . That is when technology is pointing to.   It's true today reading devices are still somewhat expensive, but, surely, they will lower their prices and everyone will have access to them. In addition there is another factor which, although not yet reflected in manufacturing, will end up being a disadvantage: it is very costly to produce paper.
